It all adds up
There’s really no single feature that defines our new model. Instead it’s the addition of many small, smart improvements that makes the new F5 Corpus our most advanced model ever. Together they create a powered wheelchair that enables users to reach a little bit further, stand a few minutes longer, endure even tougher challenges and get more out of everyday life. Simply put, the new F5 Corpus is less chair and more rehab, helping maintain and improve user mobility, independence and health.
MEDICAL AND OTHER BENEFITS
IN THE DRIVING SEAT
Of course, driving a power wheelchair all day puts great demands on the user’s energy. A finely tuned power base, along with proper seating and positioning, contributes greatly to the user’s comfort, saving their energy for the important things in life. The F5 boasts fully independent 4-wheel suspension which absorbs bumps and minimizes vibration, navigating smoothly over uneven ground while obstacles like curbs and door thresholds, are also managed with ease. Leading directly to less tone, less pain, less fatigue and longer sitting tolerance for your client.
Providing unrivaled stability and security for the user, the new suspension design ensures the user can confidently drive over a wide variety of challenging terrains, or up and down ramps, stopping at a moment’s notice under full control. By rethinking the way in which we position the batteries, we were able to achieve a much lower centre of gravity. The result is that your client spends less energy compensating for movement in the chassis and can maintain a better posture while driving, over longer periods of time.
The new design continues Permobil’s long tradition of exceptional front-wheel drive combi-chairs. Giving your client outstanding maneuverability in tight indoor spaces and superior outdoor mobility. The innovative F5 chassis features a lower seat-to-floor height that contributes directly to better access, like getting close in to tables, behind the wheel of a car or when transferring.
Speed is important for many users. Our new motor design ensures the user has enough power and speed to handle almost any situation outdoors. But we have also been careful to maintain low-end torque so the F5 can be driven slowly and smoothly over indoor obstacles, like thresholds. Combined with ESP (Enhanced Steering Performance), this gives the freedom of movement you only get from Permobil. And last, but not least, the F5 is even quieter than previous models.
175 degrees of power recline with 110 mm of sliding movement (anti-shear) in the backrest. When reclining, the unique biomechanical backrest maintains the user’s body position in relation to the backrest, headrest, upper-body supports and alternative steering devices, like chin-control. This greatly helps repositioning for anti-decubitus and relaxation, and makes catheterization easier. The anti-shear backrest particularly helps users with skin breakdown issues. In addition, the adjustable backrest angle helps those with reduced hip flexion to adjust their sitting position, which increases sitting comfort, tolerance and reduces pain – even while driving and over longer periods of time.
Posterior tilting is a major factor in counteracting pressures sores. With up to 50 degrees of rearward tilt, especially when used in conjunction with the power recline, the user can achieve a number of comfortable, functional positions – or combine them to maximize pressure relief.
When used with tilt and/or recline, the power legrest angle adjustment is crucial for treating LE edema, facilitating a draining position with the legs above the level of the heart. Adjustable legrests can also help reduce or even prevent contractures in the knees.
Unique, programmable, anterior tilt technology in three functional packages: Tone/Orthopedic management (0–10°), Functional reach (0–30°), Standing transfer (0–45°)
Capable of raising the user 35 cm, the new seat lift gives users unparalleled independence and access helping them reach higher and adjust their height to the height of people they are talking to. This also helps prevent pain in the user’s neck and shoulders from constantly having to look up at their environment, and makes many ADLs so much easier: desk and table access, shopping, cash machines, transfers, etc.
F5 CORPUS VS – FOR A STANDING POSITION
The Vertical Standing model provides an innovative way of standing, in combination with all the seating and driving benefits of the F5 Corpus.
By pressing a button the user can stand and transfer, stand and drive, and communicate eye-to-eye. What’s more, there are many health benefits associated with a standing position such as improved blood flow, bone density, pressure relief, and bladder/bowel function.
We’ve made the set-up of the VS much easier for you and your client. Seat size and legrest adjustment are simpler and intuitive. The innovative knee-block design features a 7-stage depth/pressure adjustment you can do with just one hand. Formable knee-pads, an ergonomic chest-bar and armrests that automatically follow repositioning add up to class-leading comfort.
Powered self-adjusting support wheels with built-in “intelligence” facilitate safe negotiation of indoor obstacles, like thresholds. Standing angles can easily be tailored to follow clinical recommendations. All seat functions feature position feedback for optimized standing sequences. Choose between sit-to-stand or lie-to-stand, or both! And now stand and drive mode is easier at any standing angle.
Being able to work is vital for self-esteem. The F5 Corpus lets users move more freely, and with greater access and functional reach, which can make the difference between staying at work or staying at home.
Similarly, the F5 Corpus is designed to provide every opportunity for participation in daily life and social activities. A user’s happiness and quality of life are greatly boosted by going where they want to go and doing what they want to do.
The F5 Corpus can prevent health complications that cost society a lot of money – preventing one serious pressure ulcer in a patient can cover the whole cost of a power wheelchair. 1,2,3 Then there are the benefits of functional improvements and increased participation. In addition, standing on a regular basis positively affects bone mineral density, hip stability, range of motion and spasticity.4
